Long Period Grating

Long period grating (LPG) is an optical device used to couple the core and cladding at different wavelengths. Because of the high loss characteristics of the cladding, some notches are left in the transmission spectrum of LPG. Long-period gratings have been used for spectral shaping, dispersion compensation, tunable filters and optical fiber sensors for temperature, pressure, strain, liquid level and ambient refractive index measurements.

Characteristic:
Low backward reflex;
Low insertion loss;
High sensitivity;

Application:
Band-stop filter;
Gain equalizer (for EDFA and Raman amplifier);
Optical add-drop multiplexer (OADM);
Optical switch;
Mode conversion and dispersion compensator;
Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor
